How to: Analyze in SPTransformator Version 7.2.3.1108

SPTransformator is a client application that can be used to run an analysis of your whole SharePoint farm or installed WSP solutions to assist in transforming them to new development approaches. It gives you the opportunity to rethink your solution, learn modern technologies and become a better SharePoint Developer.

The client application can be started from the start menu "SharePoint Transformator (SPTransformator)".

SPTransformator can analyze the following:

 The following functions are available on this screen:

Function Description
New Farm Analysis Scan a complete SharePoint farm and analyze the WSP solutions.
New Solution Analysis Scan WSP solutions
Open Results Allows you to open a recent analysis, performed on the current machine.
All Results Shows all analysis performed on the current machine.
Clicking the SPTransformator Logo returns to home.

Analyzing a SharePoint farm

Note: To analyze a SharePoint Farm you must have a SharePoint Farm Inventory File (.sptfinventory). You must download the Farm Inventory tool to create one for your analysis.
  1. To perform an analysis of a SharePoint farm you will need to click on the "Analyze SharePoint Farm" icon as illustrated below:

  2. This will open up the file dialogue, where you can select the .sptfinvetory which you want to analyze. After selecting the .sptfinventory you then can choose what sections to scan. These are broken down into:

    • Solutions.
    • Web Applications.
    • Site Collections.
    Important: Only select WSPs that are not 3rd party solutions. 
    Important: Only select the parts that you want to analyze, selecting more than what is require could increase the time the analysis takes where analyzing a large farm could take hours 

     Once all parts have been selected which you want to analyze click "Run Analysis".

  3. A progress screen will appear showing the collected elements, the percentage of the analysis and the finished elements.

     The results of the scan will then be displayed.

Analyzing a SharePoint Solution

If you do not have access to a .sptfinventory, you can still analyze a .wsp solution to see the possible transformations and an insight to their contents.

  1. To perform an analysis of a .wsp solution you will need to click on the "Analyze Solution" icon as illustrated below:

  2. This will open up the file dialogue, where you can select the .wsp which you want to analyze. After selecting the file click "Open".

  3. A progress screen will appear showing the collected elements, the percentage of the analysis and the finished elements.

     The results of the scan will then be displayed.

Analysis Results

Once the scan has completed you will be displayed with the results, which has been broken down into Assess, Learn, Plan and Transform, as shown below:

Menu Description
Assess The results the detailed analysis provides you with a complete inventory including their state, usage, complexity, dependencies and expected effort for the migration of your SharePoint environment.
Learn Based on the discovered transformable artifacts in your specific project, SPTransformator suggests training activities for your team prior to the actual transformation, to allow the project to run as smoothly as possible. 
Plan Having prepared your skills, SPTransformator provides you with a comprehensive view of all artifacts of your transformation project and helps you to plan and track your work.
Transform Once you have determined and planned your tasks, SPTransformator guides you through the actual transformation of the customizations and artifacts.

The initial Results will be locked. This means that you do not have complete access to Assess or Transform some of the details will be blurred our and will be clear once unlocked, contact sales to purchase an unlock code (see here for more details).
